Android: Minimum supported version is now Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

2017-12-11 10:07:14 UTC

Visiolink is changing the minimum required Android version from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This means that Android apps built or updated after 12th of April 2016 are not supported by devices with an Android version below 4.1.

Why do we make this change?

Our goal is to develop solutions of the highest quality possible and to ensure a stable app for the readers. By removing the support of older versions, we achieve a much more solid code base, and we no longer need to maintain compatibility with older versions. This also has a positive effect on resources needed for testing. By cutting old versions, we cut off a huge workload for our QA team, which will free time to test other versions even more in depth.

An average of less than 2 percent of all readers across all Visiolink Android solutions use a device with a version lower than Android 4.1.

What does it mean for the readers?

Users, who use an Android version lower than 4.1 will not be able to get the update of the app or download the app from Google Play. The current version of the app still works for everyone, but we will not be able to correct bugs on the old version. In case the reader experiences problems specific to Android 4.0.X, they should be recommended to upgrade their device if possible.

We hope that you will be happy with these changes. If you have questions, please contact Visiolink Customer Care:
