The official iOS 9 release date was announced at Apple's keynote also revealing iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPad Pro and new Apple TV. This time Apple has chosen to make the iOS 9 update compatible with older iPhones, iPads and even iPod touch devices with less focus on new features and more on optimizations and battery improvements. Our developers have tested the beta versions during the lasts months and found no compatibility issues affecting Visiolink apps. This means that compatibility upgrades will not be necessary.
Apple Newsstand will be discontinued
Later this fall Apple will launch a new News app to aggregate news from different sources. News will be supported in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia when it launches. Upon release, News will replace the current Newsstand app, and for Visiolink customers with apps in Newsstand this will mean a slight change. All current Newsstand apps will continue to function as regular apps but will be moved out of Newsstand and into a folder on the device homescreen.
With iOS 9 Apple also introduces new multitasking features: Slide Over, Split View, and Picture in Picture. By taking advantage of the large display on iPad,users can now interact with two apps simultaneously, browse the web or respond to a text message while reading the newspaper.
Content blocking - will this affect mobile ads?
Some customers have expressed concern regarding the ad-blocker capability availably in iOS 9. This will allow third-party companies to create content blocking apps that work with the Safari browser. Web users will be able to install Safari extensions to prevent not just ads, but also pop-ups, cookies, images, tracking scripts and auto play-videos from loading, however the blocking software will have no affect on content, ads or tracking in Visiolink's apps.
App Transport Security (ATS)
ATS is a security change introduced in iOS 9. To ensure secure transport and protect users' data, ATS will be enabled in the iOS 9 SDK, which means that app links to a web service must go through a secure transport protocol (https instead of http). ATS will not affect existing apps and all links will continue to function. Visiolink's developers and project managers will guide customers during the next project to follow Apple's guidelines.
