This article will show you how to create a custom report to retrieve our article event information.
The article event is triggered when a reader clicks, pans, zooms or otherwise navigates to an article that is XML-supported. The article event is described much more in-depth right here,. Further you can find all the information that is sent together with the article event here.
In this article you will learn how to set up a report with a few of the parameters that is sent together with our article event.
1. Go to your GA4 property.
2. Go to ‘Explorations’ by clicking on Explore in the menu to the left.
3. Click on the '+' Create a new exploration
4. Every time a new report is created you need to add the ’Dimensions’ and ‘Metrics’ that should be used in the report.
4.a Dimensions: When clicking on Dimensions you will get a list of all googles standard dimension and Visiolink’s custom parameters. You always need to include the Dimension ‘Event Name’ as this is used in all our filters. Further, you can view the list of custom parameters that can be included for the article event here. In this Example we will add the dimensions ‘Publication Title’, 'Event Name', 'Article Title' and Article Page Number'.
4.b Metrics: Here we will use the metric ‘Event Count’ and 'Active users' which are standard Google metrics that refers to the number of times an event is triggered and how many users that have triggered the events. Further we will add the Metric 'Duration' which is a Visiolink metric. .
5. When the Dimensions and Metric is added, you can start setting up your report.
6. Start by filling out the report as this (See picture below):
Add a filter for ‘Event name’ Contains ‘vl_event_article_end’
Add ‘Event Count’, 'Active Users' and 'Duration' under Values.
Add ‘Publication_Title’, 'Article_title', 'Article_Category' and 'Article_Page_number' under Rows (additional information can be added to the report- See the dimensions in the black box).
7. Now you can see the total number of Article readings for the time period you have chosen.
In this example we have added a few different dimension so you are able to see the article performance for a specific Publication and title. Further, you are able to see the number of readings, Users and the Total time spend on a specific Article.
8. Remember to name your report - then you will be able to find the report again
