Introduction
With the social sharing tool you can easily adjust the settings for sharing of articles so that the sharing functionality meets your needs.
There are two main views:
- Domains
- Titles
Domains
Here you have an overview of your web app domains. Since your native apps are linked to the web app domain (the universal link domain) it is only necessary to set up social sharing on the web app domain. Clicking a web app domain in the list will take you to a settings panel where you can adjust the settings for the landing page.
The landing page
Landing page enabled
The landing page is enabled by default:
When the landing page is enabled the user flow is the same for sharing E-paper articles and live news articles:
When an article sharing link is clicked on desktop the landing page will always be shown. When an article sharing link is clicked on a device (phone or tablet) the landing page will only be shown to users who do not have a corresponding app installed on the opening device. If a user has a corresponding app installed on the opening device the landing page will be skipped and the article will open in the app (if the user is logged in).
Landing page settings
On the left side you have the landing page settings panel. On the right side you have a preview. The preview is responsive, i.e. any adjustment you make in the settings panel is reflected in the preview.
You have different options in the settings panel:
- You can insert a logo URL
- You can insert custom HTML above the article
- You can insert custom HTML below the article
- With [Add+] you can add buttons with URL's (examples: a button with a link to your website, a button with a link to app store, a button with a link to play store, etc.)
- With [Universal+] you can add a specific Universal Link button
NB! If you choose to insert custom HTML, Vitec Visiolink is not responsible for incorrect HTML code |
NB! When sharing live news articles, neither a teaser nor a [UNIVERSAL-LINK] button will appear on the landing page as this functionality is only intended for sharing E-paper articles. If you have inserted a [UNIVERSAL-LINK] button, it will therefore only appear on the landing page when sharing E-paper articles. |
Landing page disabled
If you do not want to use a landing page, you can disable it:
When the landing page is disabled the user flow for sharing E-paper articles and the user flow for sharing live news articles are not the same:
Sharing an E-paper article (landing page disabled)
When an E-paper article sharing link is clicked on a device (phone or tablet) and the user has a corresponding app installed on the opening device the E-paper article will open in the app (if the user is logged in). When an E-paper article sharing link is clicked on a device (phone or tablet) and the user does not have a corresponding app installed on the opening device the E-paper article will open in the web app (if the user is logged in). When an E-paper article sharing link is clicked on desktop the article will open in the web app (if the user is logged in).
Sharing a Live news article (landing page disabled)
When a live news article sharing link is clicked on a device (phone or tablet) and the user has a corresponding app installed on the opening device the live news article will open in the app (if the user is logged in). As live news are not supported on web clicking a live news article sharing link on a device (phone or tablet) when the corresponding app is not installed will open the web app on the start page. If you do not want the web app to open on the start page when a live news article sharing link is clicked on a device (phone or tablet) you have the option to insert an App Store url or a Play Store url to handle the situation where the user does not have a corresponding app - cf. "Alternative settings (landing page disabled)" below. As live news are not supported on web clicking the live news article sharing link on desktop will also open the web app on the start page. If you do not want the web app to open on the start page when a live news article sharing link is clicked on desktop, you can insert a desktop redirect url - cf. "Alternative settings (landing page disabled)" below.
Alternative settings (landing page disabled)
If you do not want the web app to be opened on the start page when a live news article sharing link is clicked and the landing page is disabled we have designed some options for you:
- You can insert an App Store url
- You can insert a Play Store url
- You can insert a Desktop redirect url
NB! This is only relevant when sharing live news articles AND the landing page is disabled. |
This is the behavior on iOS if a live news article sharing link is clicked and the user does not have a corresponding iOS app installed:
- If an App Store url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to App Store on the app page
- If an App Store url has not been inserted but a Desktop redirect url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to this web page
- If neither an App Store url nor a Desktop redirect url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to the start page of the web app
This is the behavior on Android if a live news article sharing link is clicked and the user does not have a corresponding Android app installed:
- If a Play Store url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to Play Store on the app page
- If a Play Store url has not been inserted but a Desktop redirect url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to this web page
- If neither a Play Store url nor a Desktop redirect url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to the start page of the web app
This is the behavior on Desktop:
- If a Desktop redirect url has been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to this web page
- If a Desktop redirect url has not been inserted then clicking a live news article sharing link will take the user to the start page of the web app
Update sharing
When you are done making adjustments, remember to click "Update Sharing":
Titles
Here you have an overview of your titles and their current settings. Clicking a title will take you to a settings panel where you can adjust the settings for that specific title.
For each title it is possible to adjust settings for "Content length" and "Duration in hours".
NB! The content length and duration settings are only relevant if the landing page is enabled |
Content length
Content length is specified as a percentage. Here you can set how much of the article content will be visible on the landing page ("0" means no limit, i.e. 100% of the article content will be visible)
If you set it to 60%, it means that 60% of the article content will be visible on the landing page:
If you set it to a number greater than 100, the content length will be interpreted as number of characters:
Duration in hours
Duration refers to how long the article sharing link is active ("0" means our default, which is 30 days).
If you set it to 56 hours, it means that the article sharing link will be active for 2 days and 8 hours.
When you are done making adjustments, remember to save:
Bulk edit
With the "Bulk edit" feature it is possible to apply settings to multiple titles. The "Toggle all" option will select all titles. Clicking "Toggle all" again will deselect all titles.
