How to define a specific issue as free

In the Publishing Hub it is possible to define a specific issue as free. This is useful for marketing purposes.

It is also very useful in critical situations:

  • If one day your validation service is down and you quickly need to grant access to your publications while you work to resolve the issues with your validation service
  • If bad weather has prevented the distribution of the printed edition, and you quickly need to grant access to the digital edition for those subscribers who only have a subscription to the printed edition.

Simply choose the issue which should be free in the Publication Overview and click the gift icon. The edition will then be free on all three platforms (iOS, Android, Web). When you do not want it to be free any longer, just click the gift icon again to revert it.

NB! Defining a specific issue as free on web requires that your web solution is a Web App 2. If not, defining a specific issue as free will only work on iOS and Android.

When the issue is not free the gift icon will be green:

When the issue is free the gift icon will be red:

When an issue is defined as free a demo link to the specific issue will appear below the gift icon. This link is to be used on desktop and will only work when the specific issue is defined as free.
